“Feel the fear and do it anyway.” – Susan Jeffers

We often hear: “Don’t let fear stop you.” But what if the fear you’re feeling isn’t about the change itself – but a deeper question: “Am I enough for what comes next?”
In coaching conversations, I frequently meet high-performing professionals who’ve built long-standing success in one field – yet feel frozen at the idea of shifting direction. They say things like:
→ “I’ve invested too much to change now.”
→ “What if I fail to do something new?”
But staying in a role that no longer excites you isn’t safe – it’s a quiet erosion of confidence, energy, and purpose.
This newsletter explores why fear doesn’t always mean stop – it can actually signal that you’re standing at the edge of something meaningful..
We’ll cover:
- Why fear during a pivot is normal (and even useful)
- How to reframe it into forward momentum real-life example of one client’s shift from stuck to strategic
- Why every CV should be tailored like a pitch deck
You’re not simply applying for a new role or updating your LinkedIn profile – you’re actively redefining who you are in the world of work.
That brings up fear. And that’s okay.
Here’s what I often tell my clients:
Fear is a sign that you care. It shows that the next chapter matters. That you’re growing. And that’s not weakness – it’s leadership in progress.
Let me introduce Laura – a client of mine.
Laura had spent over 15 years in corporate communications. On paper, her career looked solid. But inside, she felt drawn to coaching and learning & development. Still, she hesitated.
She told me:
“I’ve built a reputation in this space. What if I lose it? What if I’m not as good at something new?”
Together, we explored:
- What values she wanted to centre in her next chapter
- Which existing skills were already transferable
- What it would cost her – mentally and emotionally – to stay in the same place
The turning point? When she stopped seeing the pivot as starting over, and instead saw it as building forward.
Today, she leads Learning & Development at a growing consultancy. And recently she told me:
“I’ve never felt more aligned with my work.”
