Before We Change Careers, We Change Our Story

This week, I found myself thinking less about cybersecurity and more about something far more personal.

The stories we tell ourselves. Not the stories we share in interviews or on LinkedIn. The quieter ones.

Over the past few days, I spoke with professionals from very different backgrounds.

  • One had spent years in operations.
  • Another came from healthcare.
  • Someone else had built a successful career in education.

Although their careers looked completely different, they all shared one sentence in common.

  • “I don’t think my experience counts.”

Every time I hear those words, I pause.

Because I rarely agree.

Capability doesn’t disappear because your job title changes.

Leadership doesn’t stop being leadership because it happened in another industry.

Communication doesn’t become less valuable because it wasn’t developed in cybersecurity.

What changes is the context…
